Wildlife camera

Just fielding a question about what would be a good video camera for shooting wildlife, (deer, Elk, etc) generally about in the 400 yard range, outdoors, in rugged terrain? I use a EX 3 but feel it is more camera than I need for scrambling, packing, and bouncing around on a 4 wheeler and in a backpack. It would be rare the video would be used for broadcast, but high quality would be a must.
thanks

I've shot several hunts with a Sony DSR-500 that records on DV Cam (standard def). You might be able to find one relatively inexpensive or you could rent. I've used it on hunts for deer, turkey, pheasant, moose, and even grizzly bear. The camera I used belonged to the on-air personality I was shooting for/with. Can't remember the exact lens, but it was a Canon with a built-in 2x extender.

The guy I worked with on numerous projects passed away about three months ago. Here's a tribute video that aired on local news. It contains a few bits and pieces that I shot on hunts with the DSR-500.
