wifi p2 card

Has anyone discussed a wifi p2 card that could transfer media to a remote drive.
It seems to me that the technology is available.

Sounds like it could be a very useful tool until p2 memory cards become more affordable and larger.

wifi can achieve 1gbit/sec. The hvx creates 1 gigabyte per minuet.
I think that I did the math correctly and found that wifi is plenty fast enough.
Does any one have a solid explanation, if it can or cant work?

Regarding wifi,
I haven't been into this for some time, but as far as i know the fastest unlicensed wifi standard still is the 802.11g, which is maximum 54mbit/sec. There are 108mbit/sec solutions out there as well, but there is no standard for it.

The HVX200 in full quality will output 100mbit/sec, but even a 108mbit/sec wifi would be too slow for it. First you need some overhead for handling the traffic, error correction etc, and second the bandwidth is not in any way guaranteed, and depends on how good the connection is, while the HVX200 don't care if your connection make a dip or two, it will constantly feed 100mbit/sec.

So no, with regular public available wifi technology it wont work.

Quite a few 802.11g systems now use MiMo technology to overlay two signals - almost like a striping technology for wireless data.

Supposed to function at 100 - 200Mbps as a part of the new 802.11n standard.

Interesting, and a very clever solution to improve speed! I looked around for it and found a few products using this technology and what I read about them sounds good. I just might have to pickup a kit and see how well they perform. =)

Thanks for the heads up!

Just to give you folks an idea, we implemented a 2.56 Gb/s full-duplex symmetrical, continuous throughput interface between the Interface Card and the CinePorter™ to accomplish our goal.

Hope this helps,

David,
That CinePorter sounds interesting as well. Do you have any more info to share than what's on the website? When will it be released? Are there any more advantages than avoiding fragile firewire connectors by using the P2 slot instead of the firewire output? I guess clip review etc may be possible?

edit: I just saw the CinePorter FAQ thread, so let's keep it in there instead! :)
