Wierd Post Capture Problem.

I have run into a wierd problem which i have never seen and have no clue what the problem is. I have captured a couple of tapes which have differnt event on the tapes, so there are time code breaks. I capture the full tape, and everything seems to be fine. But after the capture, i watch the footage back in fcp and it only plays up until the first timecode break. I went into my source files and played the clip through quicktime and the full tape will play (meaning past the first time code break). I am thinking that there is a setting that i need to change but i dont know where. Any help you can provide for me is greatly appreciated.

If Quicktime Player can play it back, Final Cut Pro should also play it back fine. Final Cut Pro is based on Quicktime and will read all the same codecs that the player will. I would try restarting your entire system, making a new project file and re-importing the clip, and then perhaps even trashing your preferences (though I don't think that would do much for you here).

If you have Final Cut Pro's user settings on "Warn After Capture" for timecode breaks, it should digitize right through them and allow you to see all the footage before and after the break. To my knowledge that's the only timecode break related setting you have to deal with.

And when you say that you can't see the video after the timecode break in Final Cut Pro, is that only if you try and hit "Play" to watch through it? Or when you load the clip into the viewer is the last frame in the viewer, for the loaded clip, at the timecode break, or is much later on (where it should be) and you simply see like black from the timecode break onwards? Just curious to know how the viewer is displaying/seeing it.

cheers.

thanks for the reply. I have tried restarting and everything but no luck. For instance if on a tape, i have event a, b, and c, i have captured them using capture now, and fcp doesnt make a new clip on timecode break. Everything seemed to capture fine, but when i open the clip in fcp the clip appears as if only event a on the tape imported. I go to quicktime and open it and all the events appears on the same clip.. Wiered..

That is bizarre.
I would suggest in the meantime capturing the clips seperately, and seeing if FCP does okay with that.

This is a long shot - but you might want to try trashing your preferernces and seeing if that helps - i doubt it, but it's worth a shot (thats always my "lets see if this does anything" solution).

If you don't have FCP Rescue - I highly recommend it.
Its free, and makes backing up and trashing the preferences files REALLY easy.

Yes it WAS very crazy but for the heck of it i trashed all of my prefs and for some reason it seemed to fix it!!!!! What a relief! It was wierd, my audio was all off by about 8 seconds on numerous tapes i imported, and than it was only showing up until the first timecode like i explained above. Anyway i figured it out, and THANKS A LOT!!! for the help! I really appreciate it!
