Widescreen imported in 4:3 timeline

I shot some widescreen footage and wanted to import it in a 4:3 timeline, with black bars at the top and bottom. When I import them now in 4:3 timeline, it squeezes the footage horizontally.

Any possible ways to do this?

Thanks in advance

You sure you "interpreted footage" on the clip in the Project Window to the correct PAR?

(try the options cos it should work)

I tried right-clicking>interpret footage

and then selected Conform to: D1/DV Widescreen 16:9 (1.2)

But it does not make any changes on the timeline.... weird

Okay, I'm new to forums. I figured I would post because many have helped me out on forums in the past. At any rate, I'll give it a shot.
I had this problem just last night with my new DVX100b. I think this formula may work (in theory), however, I haven't tested it yet. Here goes:

Shoot in widescreen by setting the camera to "squeeze mode", but set the view finder and lcd to "widescreen mode" (you want to see exactly what you are filming, hence this setting).
Now, when importing the video in, let's say, premiere, set the new project to DV 16:9 Widescreen. When importing the "squeezed" video, it should display the same way it appeared on your viewfinder or lcd, (and it should fill up the entire wide screen.)

I came about this by thinking to myself that the lcd and viewfinder are in 4:3 aspect ratio, so once you record in squeeze, then dump it in widescreen, it should technically fill the side bars you have a problem with. Again, I haven't tested this yet, but I will tonight. Hope this works for you, (and for me, as I like to shoot in widescreen.)

**Update** I tested this last night and it works flawlessly!
