All my footage was shot in squeeze mode on a DVX, and I'm editing it on a widescreen 24p timeline.
I captured a clip and it looked fine. I took it through JES deinterlacer to make it slow mo. The finished deinterlaced clip plays just fine in Quicktime, and is still widescreen.
However, when I import that finished clip back into FCP, the clip shows up re-squeezed. Even when I drop it into the timeline, the preview window shows it re-squeezed.
The only difference I can see with this imported clip is that in the item properties, anamorphic is not checked.
What do I do? Is this a problem with JES or FCP?
I tried an anamorphic filter, but even though it works, the image is just fixed within the "squeeze area", making the video show up with a huge black border around it.
*EDIT
Now something even weirder is happening. I have the original clip which I shot at 60i. When captured, the item properties says it's 30fps. Then when I drop it into the timeline, it says it's 24p, yet the clip plays exactly the same.
I'm getting extremely frustrated at this point.
Oh, and now the clip is showing up with HUGE interlacing lines and artifacts for no reason. I made no change. I switched windows to type this message, and when I go back to it it's all screwed up.
Ok, I saw something else. I looked at my original clip's item properties and it says "clip - 29.97, V1 - 23.98" So this may have to do with the 30p to 24p change. Still, this doesn't solve anything.
