widescreen editing in Vegas

searched through the forums and didn't find what I was looking for. My question is this...

I'm putting together some old footage that I shot 24p and in squeeze mode. So I chose to make the timeline 23.976 ntsc DV widescreen.

After capturing the unsqueezed, 16:9 video, when I preview it or throw it on the timeline, the preview window is 4:3, and the footage is once again squeezed. How do I change that? or can I change that?

You might have to right-click properties on the event in the timeline, then force the PAR to 1.21. Also, double check the PAR in the project properties. And finally, right-click the preview video window and make sure it is set to mimic device playback aspect ratio.

right clicking the preview window and clicking and simulating device aspect ratio made it the right size, but then the display numbers below it during playback turned red and it became very pixelated. even Best (full) looked pretty bad. Not sure what it's doing.

That sounds more like a function of what QUALITY SETTING the preview is using. You can crank up the preview quality, but then you'll start dropping frames depending on FX. Or you can have smooth framerates, but with low quality (read: pixelated) video. Try it both ways, and try rendering a test clip, I bet the test will look fine.
