Widescreen Dilemma - Need Help

This may be a no-brainer for many of you dvx pros, but I'm going to ask anyway. If you were planning to shoot an indie feature with hopes of getting your work seen in film festivals, or going straight to video, would you:

1. Use the widescreen adapter (which I have), but can't afford the matte box or filters.

2. Shoot normal and crop it in post. ( I have a wideange lens, telephoto lens, and several filters)

3. Or would you shoot in letterbox or squeeze mode.

Pros and cons would be most helpful, buy any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Smithouse

I'd go with option number 1 and add any kind of filter effects you want to apply in post.

There are a few on this board who have made their own matteboxes. You might consider that if you have the time or inclination.

I'm in the same boat! What if you didn't have option number one? (Ie. you couldn't afford the anamorphic lens). Which would everyone recomend?

-In-camera letterbox
-Squeeze mode
-Crop in post

I think the only answer is squeeze mode right? Other wise @ festivals or on widescreen tv's it's not gona look so hot :)

oh and I'd agree with disjecta. If you have a the anamorphic lens, USE IT. Just make sure you get barry's guide and make it your bible.
