Widescreen Compression Resolution

Ok, I am either drawing a blank, or just not enough sleep, but i need help on this one lol

I only shoot in widescreen, and compress for web in 640X360 ( a bit smaller than the original)

This is gonna sound like a stupid question to someone with skills, but what is the true resolution settings (actual size of widescreen) if you wanna compress?

Thanks a bunch!

There isn't really a set size, all that matters is the ratio of width to hight.

But if you are talking about DV widescreen (which I think you are) then it would be 854x480.

I thought the max width in DV was 720? Where is 854 coming from?

854*480 will give you a 16:9 SD frame size. It's not an "offical" size, but it's better than kicking out an anamorphic or "squeezed" 720*480 file and hoping that the playback software will know to un-squeeze the image.

the pixel aspect ratio changes from .91 to 1.2121 for anamorphic footage so a square pixel display system (computer monitor) needs the 854x480 dimensions for playback that is consistent, as adkimery said.
