Wide Angle lenses...

This spring I am starting a new project.

I'll be shooting mostly trials riders, and I like to shoot some with a wide angle lense. I searched on here already and found no results...so what are you guys using? What are the pros/cons? What companies should I be looking at?

Thanks

Buck'ster,
There are 2 wide angles choices for a DVX. The Panny ones or the Century ones. I owned and shot 800 hours with the Panny one. I just sold it and got the Century .7 zoom thru one. The difference between the 2 is stupid. The Panny is a toy. I opened the Century and said, Jesus, that's pretty.

Long story short, dig deeper and get the Century. Trust me. Simply a better choice.

I really wish Century made an Anamorphic with the same quality.

Thanks guys!

Do you either of you have screen grabs I could check out?

PJC...what do they offer that is wider?

I also own the Century Optics (CO) 0.7x Wide Angle (WA) zoom through and it's an awesome piece of glass, but just note that it is a heavy piece of glass..!

Here are some pics. http://www.icexpo.com/dvx100/century.html These are not my grabs.. I found these a while back when I was first looking. I found them to be most comprehensive lineup out there.

Also you can see the other lenses CO's offers for the DVX: http://www.centuryoptics.com/products/prodv/dvx100/dvx100.htm

If you don't care about having a full zoom-through lens (like the 0.7x) then check out CO's 0.6x WA. You'll save yourself about $400 and some weight too..

Awesome, that is what i was looking for! I would the think the .7x should work great!

Thanks

Just wanted to ask about the possibility of adding a telephoto, to the anamorphic adaptor, to the matteblox for 4x4 filters. That would be awesome, but is it possible? I want the longer lens of a telephoto to help with narrow DOF. Any suggestions? Can't we use it all at once? Life's unfair!

I think someone else asked about your stacking theory a while back. From what I recall it will not work.

To get a shallow DOF try a 35mm adaptor with a 50mm 1.4 lens. The prices range from a few hundred dollars for the DIY models to $1200+ for the pro models.

I recently ordred the Century optics lens .7x and it's beautiful. The now I want to protect the lens by putting on some sort of uv filter. Is there any recommendation on what I should purchase to protect this expensive glass?

Congrats! As far as I know the threads you see on the front are NOT for a filter, but rather to hold the top piece of glass in place.

Thanks I'm enjoying it, it's a great adapter and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a wide angle for their dvx.

So I'm assuming that there is no protection for this lens?

whats the difference between the 16x9 .7x W/A CNVRTR f/DVX100A and the anamorphic lens? do they both do the same job are both needed?

does the red eye work the same as the Century Precision Optics AD-7235 +3.5 Achromatic Diopter - 72mm (Screw Mount) or are the different?

i have the 7 times wide angle lense from panny but now all these adapters and diopeters from century and then the redeye one. do i need all 3 or just one but then which one? do they all do the same job?

I have the panasonic dvc80 with the Panasonic AG-LW7208G 0.8x Wide-Angle Converter Lens for AG-DVX100 Camcorder and i want to add the Century Precision Optics AD-7235 +3.5 Achromatic Diopter
72mm Screw Mount and the Century Precision Optics VS-06WA-DVX 0.6X Wide Angle Adapter Lens for Panasonic AG-DVX100 Camcorder Bayonet Mount but my question to you is can i use both at the same time in conjunction with the panasonic wide angle? if both adapters cannot work together at the same time then which one would should i get?

After looking at this link provided earlier:

http://www.centuryoptics.com/products/prodv/dvx100/dvx100.htm

I have a question. I don't see a .7 wide angle adapter, just a .7 wide angle converter. Is there a reason why? Why would you go the converter route instead of the adapter route, apart from the ability to zoom, which brings up the question of why a .7 adapter is not offered at all?

Also, at 0 zoom, should there be vignetting? I have a friend who has a wide angle converter where at 0 zoom the vignetting is terrible, and you have to zoom up to 25 to get rid of it, almost negating the entire wider angle. The .7 at 25 zoom looks almost the same as no wide angle at 0 zoom.

I had thought that at 0 zoom there should be no vignetting, either with an adapter or converter.

Thanks for any help.
