Wide Angle Lenses - .6, .7, .8? Benefits of each?

Hi all, I'm wanting to buy a wide angle lens for the DVX, but I am not sure which one to get. I understand what each means as far as how much extra you see incrementally, but any insight as to the benefits/drawbacks of them would be apprieciated.

I will be shooting outdoor scenery, fall leaves changing and whatnot.

Lastly, any info as to a particular brand or model, or place to buy from would be great.

The main differences will be whether the lens is zoom through or not. Century Optics makes a .6x non zoom thru and a .7x zoom thru. With the zoom thru lenses you can use the dvx's full zoom with the attachment on, plus the focus doesn't change as you zoom. With a non-zoom thru, you are limited in zoom capability, plus the focus changes as you zoom. Also, I believe the .7x has less barrel distortion than the .6x.

I have the .6x from Century Optics and love it. No vingentting, which is a problem with some lens attachments.

Hope that helps.

it would definately be worth your while to do a search on this, I remember quite a few really helpful threads on the different brands and sizes and which is best and worst.
There is a general consensus running though them and lots of good info!
good luck,
Mike

one more thing...
I ended up buying the century 0.6 adapter for my hvx200 and love it. It's a huge help for me as I do a lot of real estate stuff and the added width is hugely beneficial.
It doesn't hurt that it produces a mostly clean shot with very little barell distortion. I do get a tiny bit of vignetting on one side occasionally, but I think it has to do with the seating of the chips.
I know its been covered in more detail with more accuracy in previous threads.

I did quite a bit of searching, and found some pretty good info. Not quite as much as far as brands besides Century Optics and Panasonic, but a ton about zoom through and the advantages of each increment.

One thing I haven't found is how to use something like a Circular Polarizer with a wide angle lens. Tiffen (I know, they aren't the best of the best) has a lens kit specifically designed for use with a wide angle adapter. But I have read that most wide angle adapters don't have threads on them. It seems one of the main reasons to shoot with a wide angle would be specifically for outdoor shots, and that would warrant a polarizer.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Matt

matt - i'm also looking into getting some lens attachments but I really would like them to be threaded to put filters on and such.

I really want to shoot 16x9 with the panasonic anamorphic adapter, but i would like to know if it could be attached to a telephoto, wide angle, or fisheye attachment. does anyone have experience or insight on this?
