Wide angle lens purchase?

I'm looking to purchase a wide angle lens. I was going to purchase the Century .6x lens for the DVX. Why is the .6 lens 1/3 the cost of the .7 lens?

The 0.6x Century ISN'T as complex as the 0.7x; it lacks zoom through capability (you can't zoom in all the way with the 0.6x attachment on, whereas with the 0.7x you can.)
However, the 0.6x is VERY convenient, of great quality, and is a lot lighter than the 0.7x. I chose the 0.6x, and am very pleased, and money was only a secondary consideration at the time.

great.

how's the resolution? I hear the .6x softens out a bit when fully zoomed out.

Well, for the times when you NEED a wide angle lens (inside or outside), you will be THRILLED with the Century 0.6x.
It will ADD to your production.
If there is some softening, it will be secondary to the added benefit of seeing everyone in the frame, or having the church building to the right AND the beautiful oak tree standing majestically in the left side of the picture.

Guys, how far can you zoom through with the .6 until you get softening? Can you zoom through at all? I ask because I'd like to be able to zoom in a tiny bit so that I can work within a true range of .6 to 1.0. Will the .6 handle that?

I also have the Panasonic .8x and have been working with it & loving it for quite a while now. No vignetting at full wide and full zoom with no real softening at all.

Tainted, i have the .6 and it's a great purchase. no vignetting, no softening of focus, just a slight barrel distortion, but in my opinion that gives more the wideangle idea.
you can zoom through about half the way. not too bad. when i needed the full zoom capabilities *fast*, still while holding the camera with my right hand, i would quickly unscrew the wideangle with my left hand (and a lot of attention), keep it in my hand, and be able to zoom all the way with the bare camera.

a great deal for the price.
by the way, it has no filter thread.

The Red-Eye is cheaper than Century Optics right? Quality-wise, should I go with the Century Optics or the Red-Eye 0.7x lens?

Anybody? I'd like to order the lens with an on-camera hard drive today.

Hello Everyone!

I'm going to be getting the DVX100b next week & have a question about the Century .7.

I'm going to using my camera primarily for documentary shoots, so autofocsing is an issue. How does it affect the auto focusing of the DVXb?

Also does it give a bent fish eyed effect to the image, or is it pretty smooth?

If anyone can direct me to some footage using the century .7, I'd really appreciate it!

oops, if anyone could provide answers to the the above questions for the Century 0.6x too, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanx!

I bought the century .6 used for $280 from B&H. I love the lens and it's exactly what I was looking for. There is some slight distortion when it's wide open, but I like that look. I think zoom is halfway through. I don't know the exact zoom range though. I will tell you it's a really nice lens .
