wide angle lens and flash

I have a Nikon D50 and just recently got the Sigma 10-20mm lens.

So far I love this lens and have found it perfect for all my needs, except when I need to use the flash. Right now I am using the onboard flash on the D50 and the size of the lens creates a large shadow when using the onboard flash.

Is there any way to solve this problem while still using the onboard flash, or do I need to upgrade to the SB400/600?
