WICKED (the play)

Who has seen this play? I saw it last night, and loved it! Terrific story and music! I sure hope they do a film.

hmmmm...maybe. My guess is that they would ruin it. It's a bit too intelligent for most Hollywood films. And it would need a good sized budget.

But I'm on my man-period today, so I'm feeling a bit cynical.

So, you've seen it? Isn't it fantastic? :)

That would be a yes.

on a side note though

I liked the play because I got to see it with Idina Menzel (whatever sp) and Kristen Chenoweth and everybody on the original soundtrack. That was the cast that made it such a good play in the first place, they'd have to have a movie with ogee cast if they wanted me to see it.

As good as it was (and it was great), I am stillo more impressed with the concept than anything. I can imagine what it was like the first time that idea was pitched. Brilliant.

Crap....I'm out of manpons.

Saw it with my wife last summer here is Dallas. It didn't anger me like most musicals, I admit. But I'm still going to make her go to "Spamalot" this year to make up for it.

Probably not much pitching going on. Just hand the backers the book. Assuming the backers weren't fans of the book to begin with.

Man, I have been trying to get my girlfriend to go see Spamalot with me for 2 years now. She just doesn't see the virtue in a Monty Python inspired musical. And try getting the "guys" to go to a musical with me....yeah right. they'd ask me to hand over my testicles right there on the spot.

All they really had to manage was reading the best seller list. It was on it forever in '95, and not doing too shabbily even now.

:)

Just because a book is a bestseller doesn't mean an adaptation with be any good, especially a musical. I'm sure there was plenty of pitching going on.

I think a good story is a good story. If the adaptation tanks, I tend to think it was a poor adaptation. But thats just me....

Some stories lend themselves better to different mediums...no matter how good the concept is. Doesn't mean it can't be done. It just means it might not be as effective.
