Why Won this Work!

I am working in the New FCP6 and I have a bunch of HDV footage I shot with a sony fx1. I captured it all using the HDV codec in Final cut and now I have edited a project. I would like to be able to see it through firewire and have go into my FX1 and then from the camera go into an HDTV. It works right now, but I dont get the right resolution. When I try to change the playback options from "Firewire Ntsc(720x480)" to one of the HDV options they are all grayed out. Why are they all grayed out? And is there a way for my HDV footage to be played back through firewire and still remain in the higher resolution?

thank you soooooo very much!!!

Being that its a Sony camera I would check and see if there's a iLink downconvert setting in there somewhere that is turned on. I know the A1U and Z1U have that. I don't know the FX1 though, but it would certainly be something I'd look into.

But then I have to ask, does the FX1 have HD component out, HDMI out, etc.? You won't be able to go to your TV in HDTV if the camera doesn't have the appropriate out.

cheers.

If you're talking about live timeline monitoring through the camcorder via firewire and out to TV/HDTV--it doesn't work with HDV...at least not the way you might've been used to with DV. You can only output a finished timeline through the print to video process, which conforms the timeline for the HDV codec and then does an automated output as an MPEG stream back to the camcorder. Your camcorder needs to be in VCR/tape playback mode, (NOT camera mode) and most likely needs to have DV downconversion turned off.

Going to the View/All Frames option in FCP to spit the HDV video out (in HD resolution) via firewire doesn't work due to the GOP nature of the format. You need to have a dedicated HD card like a Kona, Blackmagic Intensity, etc in order to monitor the timeline in HD. (on an external HDTV/monitor)
