Why, why, why?

To you Vegas Masters out there, what would be the ONLY reason that I drop almost every frame in Sony Vegas Capture, via FireWire, but capture in every other program on the computer drops none?

Nope, that doesnt work.

May I note that when I am in "Record" mode on my camera, the preview on the computer is fine. When I am in playback, though, and I play, it is all choppy and messed-up, like when I capture it.

OK.

So, when the capture program is doing nothing but previewing what the camera is doing, it's fine.

But when it is reading from or writing to the hard drive, it's choppy.

Hard drive problems, then? Needs to be defragged? Is the location of the video file the same as the /Temp directory and/or the pagefile?

drivers or smart preview

drivers or smart preview

I am no vegas expert. much an ameteur. But i recently had problems with my capture doing the same thing. I remembered that I had recently updated my drivers for my video card (an fx5200). so I went back to my older drivers and everything worked perfectly again. When I was having choppy capture though with the bad "new" drivers the only way i was able to get it to work half way was to turn on smart preview where the video wouldn't be previewed while i was actually capturing. anyways. hope this helps

I also had this problem. How many hard drives do you have? If you have a master and Slave... make sure your capture properties is only checked off to one path. I accidently had my capture footage going to 2 places, one folder in my slave drive and another folder in my master drive, make sure that's not your problem.

Just one hard drive. I need a new video card, but what is bugging me is the fact that capturing works on all other programs.

If you need a quick work around just to get you up and running, capture using the 'other' program and import the captured files to Vegas.

Without knowing what PC/Mac you have, what OS, what vid card, how much RAM on the MB and the vid card, how much HDD free space, it's hard to diagnose your problem.

You have stopped all the unnecessary programs running in the background right?
