Loved this film - kind of hard to talk about it with any substance without discussing the taboo of politics, but it's highly recommeded as far as I'm concerned. By no means would I say it didn't have an agenda, but I found it much more even handed, thoughtful and pointed than Farenheit 911. For many, it won't tell you anything you didn't already know - but 90 minutes of a concentrated dialogue on the influence of defense contracters left me feeling something between depressed and terrified.

:kali: (seemed appropriate to the film - lol)

Should be MANDATORY viewing for all north americans.

(My bet is this thread gets shut down in 10...9...8...7...)

Yes! I am SO glad this film is getting tossed around.
I just worked on a small fest called the Mountain Top Film Festival with director Eugene Jarecki's wife-- they live up here in Vermont -- and they both seemed concerned that the film would not get good distribution.

It's a great film, and I think the reason it may stand out above something like Farenheit is that it really makes an effort to balance. Right and Left are given their say in this film -- and it is never compromised by gimmicky stormings of buildings and chasing the "bad guy" politicians to their cars.

So happy you made this post!

Hopefully people can express why they did or didn't like the film and it's filmmaking devices without vehemently arguing their opinions of the acutal policies involved in the film's content. I think people who might not like it could say "the film only paid lip service to opinions inconsistent with its thesis" or "the film was edited in a way to overdramatize certain subjects while ignoring others", etc., etc. In other words, surely people can discuss the film itself without the discussion devolving into a shoutfest about U.S. foreign policy (which would get shut down in less than 10 seconds).

I'm jealous! I would love to meet Jarecki and/or his wife. I rented The Trials of Henry Kissenger when I heard Why We Fight was about to be released. I thougt it was a great film, too (though I liked WWF better) - these are some top notch filmmakers for my taste. I hope you put her contact info in your rolodex! That's a nice aquaintence to have.

Hell yes I did...Although I was just a lowly intern. An intern OF an intern actually, haha. Who I'd really like to meet is his brother Andrew -- as I'm not a very political kid, and Capturing the Friedmans blew me away. And I just read that apparently Andrew is Cofounder of Moviephone?? haha...that's funny to me.

thanks for posting...after going to the website and previewing the trailer and reading some of the comments...i can't wait to see this movie, most likely will have to rent or buy dvd...not listed in my area.

from my perspective it's sad to know f-9/11 was here, but a film that such as this is not represented...i will pay to see this movie...but sorry couldn't pay to see f-9/11.

The film is really quite amazing.

It's very simple the way it is pieced together, relying on stock footage to inter-cut interviews most of the time. However, there is some iraq footage that was hard to watch yet refreshing to see aired somewhere, and they got some top shelf interviews with people.

All together a great piece. More impressive is the fact that it's found distribution and an audience.

I like this film maker.

Does anyone have info on what the cost to produce this was?

For what it's worth...
I think I'll stick to Frank Capra's Why We Fight Series.

CallaghanFilms, no offence to you brother, but do you actually know the history of your government's foreign policy?

I don't know if CallaghanFilms knows it, but I know, and I am not american, and I thanks people that don't fall in the actual "peacefull" policy from people that don't stop to say they want peace and don't look to the past and see that peace and freedom that they are enjoying cost many lifes.
I think people who think that we can get the peace talking with people who don't want to talk remember me the 30 era of the last century when there is people who thought that the peace was posible talking with Hitler, I think sometimes that the occidental society where we live is more inocent that the pre-WWII society.

I don't want war, I don't want nobody kill nobody, but I want my freedom and If I have to fight to protect my (our) freedom, I'll do. Yes, It is hard to say, but the life is hard, and the humanity story is hard.
