Why the downer on the 1D C?

4k in a high-end DSLR body + a 1DX to go with it? I'm game... If I had the money. :) Also, from my understanding this beast is actually decent in low light... don't know many other 4k cameras that are...

Yup. I shot on a Scarlet for the first time recently (needed 4k) and started out trying to expose like I was using a DSLR. Big mistake. I've gotten spoiled by being able to get really decent exposures at night using just street lights and fast lenses which is perfect for run/gun. You win this round Canon. If the price isn't stupid I really want one of these...

Yeah I just read this too. If it's true there may be a Magic Lantern 4k that will be insane for indie types.
Yeah now we just need some people to hack the 1dx. Anyone want to brick a 1dx camera trying this..... I think they only cost 7k :)

I think someone had physically ripped apart a 5d III OLPF and after that misadventure we didn't hear anything about it. May be some brave soul can try something in 1D X.

Rather than trying to hack the 1DX, I would prefer if someone can hack the 1DC and get to record clean 4K. Now one can only record Clean 1080p and not 4k. That I guess should be more doable?

i dont know why people thinks that 1dc is so unique ...
it doesn't use full frame for 4K and crop factor is little bigger than red scarlet....and only 24fps...
for 15000$ i dont wont to be restricted by 8bit codec ...doing color correction with 8 bit image is like dancing on the edge of the cliff and i dont need to think about that when i paid that kind of money(neat video tricks and all that voodoo is for cheap cameras not pro stuff)...and no zebra ,false color and focus peaking ... and 1080p doesnt look any sharper than 5d3...
what canon did is so lazy and take money and run that is mind boggling...

1080p especially 50p looks sharper then 5d markiii

Since it does have s35 crop owners will double their lenses in 1080.
The only things i am missing with 1d-c is 4:2:2 in 2k and Peaking. Latest i heard camera will be selling for $1100.
Other decent camera should be Sony A99 with clean 4:2:2 out.
Anyway who really wants to f... Up their Zeiss CP.2s to do Astronomy shots with BMC??

I guess they're just lazy and can't be bothered to add 4:2:2 at 1080p, or that they need to protect other cameras in their line up that records 4:2:2 video at 1080p such as the C300...
So they have to restrict the 1DC in some ways, like purposely limiting the fps at 4K to 24 only. Oh well.
Weirdly the bitrate of the 4K video the 1DC does is so much higher than RED's own REDCODE RAW even at 7:1 compression :o

Haha! That thing is going to sell out like you cant believe! DOA for you, no doubt, but there is a big market out there that has been waiting a long time for those specific features, in that specific compact form factor, with that specific reliability, long battery life, ruggedness, etc....

I love how they act like it's something revolutionary or NEW. When it's been happening with the Epic and Scarlet for over a year....

It makes me laugh when fools put the scarlet and epic in the same sentence as the 1dx or 1dc when talking about still photography. Fact is. the 1dc will provide good enough video for 95% of jobs. but are industry standard for sports, wildlife, paparazzi, wedding, product, and all other professional stills photography. Lets see some muppet undertaking a proper product photography or sports photography shoot with an scarlet or epic. - it wont happen! 4k still grabs from a scarlet wont touch 18mp raw stills from any canon full frame professional camera. the scarlet wont even match a 1dmk2 for stills!

You didn't watch the whole video I'm guessing. You know the video stream is not RAW correct? I'm talking about the fact they're pulling stills from the Motion Jpeg stream. It's not raw.

The video makes it appear like it's "revolutionary". When it's not.

I'm not saying take a RED Epic out to a normal photography shoot. I'm just saying for their application they're doing nothing new. They're just simply trying to take credit for it since they put out product videos and RED lets their product speak for itself.

Trust me I'd use a 1DX over a RED in almost every instance for photography. But for the application of this video they're already behind the curve.
