Why settle for 4K.. 8K IS HERE!!!! Panasonic and NHK go UHD!

The Infini-K Display will be back to analog: continuous signal providing effectively infinite resolution. How does it work? Don't know, haven't invented it yet; my dog ate my crayons. At least it made for colorful dog walking. The Infini-K will have to wait until I get another shipment from Crayola (remember, Cray used to build the fastest supercomputers. Crayons, cousins of tachyons, are actually fundamental computing particles that haven't been discovered yet. And the names Cray, Crayon, and Crayola, are no coincidence (yes, time travel is possible, but not quite like Hollywood depicted). Crayfish, however, is a coincidence).*

Curious what kind of camera/lens shot 8k (perhaps was multiple cameras stitched together in post).

* the above paragraph may, or may not have ever existed at all.

I'm sort've glad I can't keep up with resolution wars because it might get me back to concentrating on my scripts -- writing is resolution independent!

Yeah. I was curious about that. According to the article, and others about this announcement, they are saying that the BBC is supposed to display some of the coming up Olympics in 8K. How they are going to do that is the question....

Thinking about this further, likely a custom sensor (single piece or made with tightly packed sub-sensors). Lenses? Custom or something along the lines of the Panavision Primo Digital, which appear to be the best lenses made(?): http://www.panavision.com/content/primo-digital

8k is about 30 megapixel so even sharp canon lenses (namely L series and a few others) should resolve at least that.

Good point: 8000*4500 = 36Mp. The sensor needs as much as 4x higher resolution (2x width & height: 16000x9000, 144Mp) if using C300 style Bayer processing (else less if using more complex Bayer interpolation (Red, etc.), however quality is not as good and is more work post-processing). Thus, if the Bayer sensor is only 8K, then L lenses or similar might work (with best Bayer interpolation, 8K/1.25 = 6.4K actual resolution). If processed output is true 8K, as much as 4x more resolution, 144Mp is required (if using best Bayer interpolation, 10000x5625 = 56Mp (to provide interpolated true 8K)).

they made an nhk 8k camera a few years back(by camera i mean a huge Frankenstein contraption). and it's not difficult to display at any resolution, you can see that in malls, concerts and other venues, usually a computer or broadcast truck controlling different signals transmitted to either different displays close together or a big display that accepts and can sync multiple sources. if i remember correctly that 8k camera captured footage in 4 hd signals in sync.
