why is this messing up?

I am new to after effects and I am trying to use it to create an intro for a youtube show.

here is where I am:

I want the camera to zoom all the way into the video until it takes up the full screen, but once i get past where the camera stops, it all just cuts to black for some reason. How can i have the camera move past this?

Interesting. Maybe you need to increase the scale of the layers so that you can move the field of view closer to them before the camera physically passes through them? Use your 'top' and 'left' or 'right' views to get a better idea of what's actually happening.

For something like this, you may be better off working backwards.
So start the Cam close up to your footage and Keyframe backwards - then you can SELECT AND RIGHTCLICK KEYFRAMES / KEYFRAME ASSISTANT / REVERSE KEYFRAMES.

Also check that your CAM isn't locked to the object, by Selecting the Cam in the Timeline and pressing APPLE (or Command) and ALT and 'O' then make sure that Auto Orient Object is set to OFF.

Another hint is to create a 3D Null Object and PICKWHIP the Position of the Cam to the Position values of the Null, for some reason it becomes a bit more manageable if you leave Cam settings and manipulate Null Position values.

Re: Why does my rendered output 'stop' short... Check to see if you have enabled the render for the 'entire' clip, rather than just the 'work area'. Since we don't have your project, and attendant files, we really can't tell... just give guesses...

But in the render options you can select whether to use the 'work area', vs some other amount of time for the clip, and occasionally I have forgotten this little detail, and wondered why my renders were shortened...

Another thought is that the 'plate' of the theater you are using, being a 'still' does not have enough length to match the video clip your are compositing in on the screen. But that would result in the live clip playing in 'black emptiness'...

Try taking a look from above at your comp if you haven't already. Perhaps you scaled down the Video footage and are simply passing thru it in Z space.
