Why is letterbox gray in some shots?

The letterbox in my footage is black in one of the clips and grey in the others? I didn't do any color correction on the clips, so I'm at a loss. Anyone. Anyone. Bueller?

This looks like the last clip was shot at a different setup level. With setup = 0 IRE, you'll get black black. With setup = 7.5 IRE, you'll get dark grey, which is actually the standard setup level for broadcast - your signal level should never go below 7.5 IRE.

Do a little experiment: Load the picture on Vegas timeline, and open the videoscopes view. Make sure at least one of the scopes shows 'Waveform'. You will see a distinct line at 7.5 IRE, but also one at 0 IRE in the right half of the waveform, corresponding with the black bars in the last picture.

I'd say the clips we taken at different setup levels in camera.

Thanks David and X. I used the event pan and crop for each clip, but it seems as though any action done off of my primary video track turns the letterbox grey. Is there any way to keep the letterbox black on those other three clips? All of my full screen clips on the primary video track also have black letterbox. If I rearrange the placement of the clips, the letterbox color changes accordingly.
