Why is image wider in Log and Capture monitor than DVX100 monitor?

Hello,

I’m having a strange FCP capturing issue: The footage I am seeing/capturing with FCP Log and Capture is somehow a “wider” image than what appears on the camera LCD or eyepiece monitor. Does the camera actually record a wider frame than what is seen in the camera monitor? Does anyone have an idea for solving this issue?

Details: Like usual, I’m capturing from my DX100 and using the standard DV NTSC 48 kHz capture present. I have the first DVX100 version with no anamorphic setting and I have never had this issue before.

Here is the video part of my capture preset summary:

Using DV Video for video input
DCR-TRV900 using NTSC
29.97 frames per second
DV-NTSC at Best quality.
24 bit per pixel
720 by 480

Does it look like there is something wrong with my capture settings?

Or does it seem like maybe something is wrong with my camera?

Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

by wider, do you mean you see more image outside of the vertical edges of your lcd's frame, or wider as in stretched?

Thanks for the response. Are there any settings I can adjust in the camera to see all the way to the edge of what is actually being shot? It's strange because I've never encountered this issue in the 100s of hours I have shot and captured w/ this camera. I did some exact framing on set, which the producer liked, but then what the editor captured was framed just a bit too wide and not what we saw while shooting. Aside from zooming in later, has anyone figured out a way to deal w/ this problem? JC

Nope- this is why you want to carry a production monitor with over/underscan if this safe/tv area is becoming an issue for you.

Just get used to not seeing the extra 5 pixels on each side. If there is something in-frame that you don't want, be sure to give yourself that image cushion during producition - Free.

Or get a monitor- Costs money.

It's often a lot more than 5 pixels- I've seen as much as 10% or more of the screen cropped out by the LCD.

Thanks Noah... yeah I think 5 to 10% of the screen describes my situation. Any my JVC TM-A13SU external monitor didn't show the issue so it must be cropping the same amount as well.
