Why I hate todays generation of music...

Well I'm just glad you have all the bases covered on that end. LOL.

possible future classic rockers/musicians of this generation:

(random order)

Buckethead
The Mars Volta
System of a Down
A Perfect Circle
portishead
Blur
Gorrilaz
Rocky Volotado
Cake
The Decemberists
Estradasphere
The String Quartet group of musicians
Secret Chiefs 3
The John Butler Trio
Nirvana
The White Stripes

the list goes on.

there's a lot of great music out there...

I doesn't have to be alternative or hiphop, it could be anything but we need a new Nirvana like wave to wash away all the BS. One second hairbands and the next GONE!

I don't think the current generation of music is bad. I'd argue that there is a higher quantity of good music being made right now than ever before. It's just harder to find the good music because there's also so much more bad music.

that's a good point... the thing is people confuse "popular music" with "generation music". there's a difference. especially since pop-ular music is which you'd find in wendy's and the mall. that isn't reflective of the generation... just good marketing.

i know plenty of 18-23 year olds who've introduced me to an excellent variety of music.

even rap isn't a bad genre.... it's just been taken over by the extremely un-artistic.

I think it is reflective of the generation and I think that's the problem.

This is the main focus of my class. We show the origins to the current crop of crap that's on the market now. I also talk about how music is chosen for you, it's not as simply as put something on the radio and respond to request. A DJ won't even play your song unless it's "cleared" by the station ("cleared" means the artist company has paid to have the song played).

^^yeah ... i have a beef with radio music, too. the only good station we have around here plays classic rock 90% of the time. i like classic rock just as much as the next guy, but common! there's new AND good music out there!

but yeah... big business and such... heh

And it controls everything. Even Youtube. Remember how cool Youtube was before ads had to be everywhere. And I for one have no problem with ads. I understand it's how money is made but give me a break.
