Why I hate todays generation of music...

Robbie I can't agree more. These "non hip hop" (is the right word) artist are categorize wrong. It's gangster music, no where close to being real hip hop as they try to call it. They "take/buy" (key word) other hit songs and ruin them to our ears ! Real hip hop involves

- Break Boys/Girls
- Graffiti
- DJ-ing
- MCs
- Beat boxing (newest to the elements).

Not.... errr ahhh ohhh yeaaa get crunk - Insert - auto tune because most of can't sing. It's funny most make it in the business with playing two finger key board beats or screaming stuff that's just stupid and goes to show you that TV definitely influences the people. Most of it makes money from its ignorance and that's what attracts most people, the other half find it funny and some even sexy at a club. I guess it boils down to what makes you move !! Now I have respect for them because that is their style music (simple gangster sing alongs) and can't say anything but don't listen to it if you don't like or make something better.

I love all kinds of music, but don't really care for this style. I still listen to things like, Tribe Call Quest, James Brown, Big Daddy Cane, RUN DMC, Doug E Fresh, Fab 5 Freddy, Grandmaster Flash, Jay Z, Busy Bee, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, Fresh Gordon, Sugar Hill Gang, Mc Ricky D, Afrika Bambaataa (AKA godfather of hip hop).

"There's a reason it's called "Classic Rock.""

Yes but what did your parents / grandparents say back in the day to your music ? Well I'm almost 30 now, but I know my grandparents dislike all of the music I listen to because that wasn't from their error. My parents being a little closer to my age like some of it, but my dad being a die hard rolling stones, allman brothers, led zeplin, etc.. fan didn't like most of it. Now of course there was older music at that time I could have listened to, most of which I did and still do, but sometimes people listen to other things to take a break from the great artist that have been set in stone.

Now my point is, history repeats its self. The music they call music today is junk (well most of it) and what do you think is going to be next ?

I don't regularly listen to mainstream music, but some of the lesser known bands i've been listening to are GREAT!

LOL, I'm actually teaching a class called "The Sociology of Hip Hop" and you'd be surprised how much of this we cover. How did it get to this point? Follow the money and control of the form. Even rappers admit it all sounds the same. Here's the guy that should've been best lyricist. Listen to the lyrics on this. The metaphorical content alone is better than almost any "popular" rapper today. Also if you do a Youtube search for "The music industry exposed Part 4" We saw that in class and you could hear a pin drop.

I did a search, but all I get is some occult nonsense, can you provide a direct link?

Did you get this? If you did, this is it. What shocked and amazed everyone started at moment 3:36. My whole
class simply went silent (and my classes don't normally do that) as we watched. While a lot of the videos may
be questionable, it does make you wonder about some things. Something is going on. But what? Why does all the music sound the same?

I watched the full series. Exaggeration and general conspiracy theory material. Some parts are downright funny. I can't believe he is being serious. Perhaps they are laughing at us somewhere:) Especially after hearing the tone of the voice of the guy that handles the anatomy subject.

I can take the pose in the triangle in this video and I don't even exercise. This guy is not very good in anatomy or lighting. The hair is obviously oiled, under heavy styling and very short. The muscles look anatomically correct.

How about this image?

http://www.armsoftheworld.com/images/300_poster.jpg

(May I have some cheap synthesizer mystery music please? Deep strings and stuff? Thank you). I'm sure everyone can see that the muscles do not look right. Those are not nipples, those are the eyes of a demonic creature, and that sixpack looks like 3 series of teeth, doesn't it. I know that film is full of demonic references and I will prove it! Lets turn the poster around, 300 becomes O.O.M. and W.O.O, and O.O.Σ. (sigma) in the mirror, hm I haven't heard of these secret sociaties before, but I can certainly hear 500 of them chanting OOOO OOOO MMMMMM in their secret gatherings. Almost as scary as rap! But why 3 series and not 2 series of teeth like normal creatures? Remind me to find some solution with deep symbolism to that question:) 3/2, 2/3, 2+3, hmmmm... Oh, I got it! 3 series x 2 teeth=6. It could only be three! 6pack! 666! That's it! The devil! The antichrist! Tonight we dive in hell! Written in blood!

So, the brain searches for facial features in everything, including the surface of planets and this guys torso. A seriously disturbed individual could have an ever more vivid imagination. The sky is the limit. He could go through music videos frame by frame and play records backwards to look for clues. There are doctors that specialise in treating that.

If we started counting the words in our posts, summed by paragraph and sentense and used the posting time somewhere, we would certainly find "meaning" in everything. Then we could reverse them, check the size of the signature and avatar images, combine them with random data from the news threads and find more:) Or end up like that guy in the film "Pi". Those who died on 25th of any month are probably as many as those who died on the 24th, 23rd, and every single day. 3% of all people die in the 25th of every month. Even celebrities.

A few occult references can be found in most types of music, and in art in general. In the 21st century only teens find it interesting IMHO. A few generations ago, many people were into the occult, even well educated adults, many doctors, architects. You can find references in their work, and those weren't an inside joke, the references actually had meaning to them. But that was a long time ago.

Deamonic possesion and contracts with the devil.

Why would one worry about a pyramid on a t-shirt when you can find one on the dollar bill? How is this "Rain Man" different from the generations of rockers and kids that did that strange sign, the mix of the sign of the horns and the sign language sign for love? That doesn't scare their grandmas any more (they also did that in the 60s) and it probably did no harm to anyone. And half of them do not even get it right.

But why do you show that thing in class? It doesn't have much educational value IMHO. Some entertainment value perhaps. There is tons of conspiracy theory material with better research and documentation.

If you want to really scare them, get them to study modern banking, forex, hedge funds and the like and do an analysis on the economics of modern nations as you would do for a company. After what happened the past 2 years, they will probably lose their sleep.

Dude, the Rhinanna thing was a bit too much. I mean I feel you on a lot of stuff but as a Photoshop guy (and teacher) I can tell that was altered. I don't know why, but it was. As for the other stuff I don't know, but what it comes down to is music controlled by whomever and you will only get what they want you to hear, that why it all sounds the same. The original poster is pointing out something that people don't understand.

As for your 300 thing, maybe you're right, but honestly, that was too weird. We all work with images here. I'd love for some of the Photoshop pros to look at that and tell me that wasn't altered. Let's put the reasoning behind it to the side, my question is was it altered or not. My vote is yes.

As for music today, it's only purpose is to make money. If one thing sells, then make something that sounds like it and it will sale too. Simple math, but make the whole of modern music suck. Even Jay-Z knows this, that's what "The Death of Autotune was about."

You mean it was altered to look like a demon or altered in general? It doesn't really look like a demon IMHO and if anyone had that in mind, they didn't go a very good job.

Music all sounds the same because it doesn't need to sound different, I agree. It's a formula that works and is easily sold by the means of the music video. Most greek pop sounds the same also. It sounds familiar, it's easier to hear. But formulas existed for all types of music, centuries ago it was the exact same situation. Those who created the formula that worked, those who immitated it. Formulas for everything. The typical 17th century portrait we admire in the museums is just that, a formula. Easy to sell, work for hire, generally accepted as fine work. Very few things done to improve it, and when it was improved, it was an improvement in the technique and materials that gave the work permanence in color and good aging. The very artists admited the formulas existed.

How original and how predictable is the common blues form?

Modern greeks mention the songs of the previous generations and how important they were. But what they do hear today from those times is filtered by time and distance. The unimportant stuff is forgotten, only the better music survived. 90% was junk at those times, just like today.

The purpose of music has always been money, with some very rare exceptions. It's a profession and it has always been. We might think of the great painters as "artists" but once you read their mail you know how important selling paintings was, how they always tried to get the materials cheaper and how important commercial success was to them. How about the composers that worked for those who had the largest pile of gold, rarely having the ability to change the formulas the boss prefered? Some of them produced fine music.

It's not about today, it's about how it has always been with commercial art.

I don't know dude. Something's going on and it's not just about money, it's about control. I wont go political, but I will say that freedom of speech is threatened more by big corporations than the government. You don't chose the music you want to hear, "they" choose it for you unless you're doing internet radio. And I just found out that 99% of us could be sued for watching Youtube vids. While, like I told Filmman, it would probably never happen because of the sheer amount of factors it would take to win a suite like this, I also feel it only takes one judge that's stupid or has been bought to make a crazy decision: OSNEWS so art is in trouble and everyone wants to control us, the people on this very forum. We are professional content creators and we are valuable to some and a threat to others.
