Why HDV captures in 3.3mb/sec mpeg2 format? Urgent Help needed.

hello all,

I am having some problem with capturing my HDV footage from cannon HV30. The shooting is done in 25F and I am using Adobe premiere pro 2 to capture from tape.

If I am not wrong.....I thought HDV mpeg2 compression is done at 25mb/sec data rate. But when I am capturing in my HDD ....and checked the footage...Its shows that its captured in 3.3mb/sec .

I used HDVslipt....and it captured in 3.8mb/sec.

Can anyone tell me how it is possible for me to get my footage in 25mb/sec bitrate..? or am I getting something wrong..!!

I need to get my footage in highest quality as it will be transfered to film after color grading n compositing. So if theres a better idea to get my tape captured in higher quality pls advice me. I will be using Raylight during editing but this mpeg2 issue is givng me a headech.

Pls help....Its urgent..!!

thanks all..

25 mb/sec is megabits, not megabytes. 1 megabit is roughly .125 mb, so 25 megabits/sec is roughly 3 megabytes/second which is what you're getting.
