Why having to render?

Hello everyone.

Ok I have been shooting with HMC150 for a while now and have been able to cope with this render issue on FCP. But I think I lost it today because it just drove me nuts.

Here is the problem, I pull in the clips through the "LOG & TRANSFER" which turns the clips into "ProRes". When I slomo the clips it gives me the render red line. WHY? I have worked with HDV before and I would slomo with no render needed? If "ProRes" is native to FCP then WHY must I render everytime I slomo a clip??

Thanks....

I have always run it on safe without an issue.... Isnt ProRes an apple codec? So why would it not work without rendering? Especially for something so simple as slowing down a clip....

Not so simple depending on your system specs- trust me you want RT Extreme. That's what it's there for.

Does RT Extreme = Unlimited RT? I assume it does, as I don't see "RT Extreme" anywhere.

I've always wondered why I keep getting dropped frame warnings every time I try to playback at Unlimited RT on a clip that needs rendering. This on a Mac Pro with a fiber cable XServe RAID. I haven't been able to figure out why.

Does it really pose any kind of problem to have those kind of dropped frames? Other then if your the the type who plays back off the timeline while recording to tape? For which I know a few here at the office who do just that.

Not me of course. I always export to tape so that I know everything is fully rendered. :~)
