"Why filmmaker don't need money."

Write article about not needing money, cite examples of people with money as inspiration. No compute.

And at least one of them did a B-movie to boost his career status, on someone else's money.

I was a bit confused going into this, wondering if he was serious (and half joking) or just completely joking. I think it's how he writes it, and not knowing who the guy is. I thought he was a filmmaker 'artist' that's full of himself.

Then I read it again assuming he was being sarcastic and the tone makes a lot more sense.

Exactly. Really hard to tell.

I really seriously wanna be able to buy a ferrari one day. ( not buy it... cause i think super cars are ridiculous, but be ABLE to.....)

A really really good Director/DP can get about $20k a day... i wanna work like... 100 of those days a year..... :)

I like this article. Very funny! Film is the one remaining art form where the participants unfortunately have to have a certain degree of wealth / resources to produce what could be considered normal, well-crafted narrative films...

I think this is perhaps why everyone thinks it's "cool". Painting stopped being cool the moment people could afford paint, haha.

I soon figured out that the vast majority of successful directors producing above-mentioned "normal, well-crafted narrative films"...
1. Came from a wealthy family
or
2. Were poor but due to their talent / energy / charm COMBINED WITH their circumstances (living in the right country, for example) were able to connect with people with the wealth / resources needed to make films... and usually they had to sacrifice creative control to those with the wealth / resources in exchange for getting the first films made.
So yep, even if they didn't start off wealthy, they were able to get wealth involved in the making of their movie.
or
3. Worked their asses off for years on stuff that the rich kids turn their noses up at to get the funds together.

The good news is, though: the average American or European has enough... even though they think they don't!

What irritates me is when people think that they're poor... boast of making a film for "no money" like that means something... um, sorry dude, come to South Africa if you want to meet a very large number of people who really don't have anything. And hey, South Africa is rich compared to its neighbors!

I think we should just count our blessings, acknowledge and be thankful for the resources we have... and that sense of gratitude for our luck in life (combined with of course talent, bloody hard work, etc) should be part of what drives our creative passions.
