Why does Video go into track 1 and audio into track 5?

Once i select a clip and drag it to the time line this always happens. why wont video and audio go on matching tracks in premiere pro CS4?

You're probably in a template like DVCPRO HD where the top four audio tracks are mono, and your audio is stereo. Stereo can't go into a mono track, so it goes into the first track it can.

Or perhaps it's vice-versa.

That's my guess too. You can easily delete those tracks if empty and/or add the type of audio track you want. For me it doesn't matter if the A & V numbers match, just that the most used audio tracks are at the top so that I don't tie up so much screen space to see them -- and I use a 30" monitor.

Its because your first 4 audiotracks are stereo and your video-audiotrack is mono. Or vice versa. PP then automatically puts your audiotrack beneath.

David already said that.

Look at the topic date, this is past it's sell by date and has been answered :kali::Drogar-KnockedOut(D

Also, depending on the version, whichever track you have highlighted on the left will be the one that the audio goes to.

I never really understood why Premiere makes mono and stereo be on different tracks though. I guess if you're doing track adjustments, then some stereo adjustments wouldn't effect mono files, but still, you'd think they'd make it an option as to whether you wanted it on or off.
