why does office space work

If you really want to get fired:

Do what I did a few year back. Write a highly critical but factually correct memo and distribute to everyone you know within the company. Keep one copy for yourself.

If you are lucky, you'll get fired on the spot. Chances are, you can sue for wrongful dismissal (as long as everything you've said in that memo was true), and get a nice settlement. Companies with bad systems (and this one was REALLY bad!) will do everything to protect their image.

I wasn't that lucky - I was one of those dreaded consultants, so I didn't qualify for a wrongful dismissal lawsuit. Personally I wouldn't go for it - I didn't really want to work there anyway.

The good news - I got fired on the spot. The best news - for quite some time after I got fired, I kept getting private e-mails from the company employees, praising my courage and informing me of the ripple effects my memo had. Pretty soon, a few key developers left and a VP got fired. That was the same VP who fired me, and that was the ultimate satisfaction.
