Why does encore lower quality automatically?

I've used encore before, and it automatically constricted the size of my projects so they would fit on dvds or blu rays. But recently I purchased cs4 and any time I try to burn a project it will lower the quality of my timelines even if it doesnt have to.

For instance, I import a mpeg-2 file that's 1.34 gb, it compresses it to 140mb....

I go through all the dvd transcode options in properties and I can't get it to burn at full res... what's up? Am I missing something here? This never happened to me in cs3.

I would have to see precisely what you are doing, but make sure you select MPEG-2 DVD when you export from Premiere. That would export, if I'm not wrong, one .m2v with video and one .wav with audio.

What do you call "full res"? If you export a 1920x1080 MPEG-2 file and import it into Encore, it will be automatically scaled down to the maximum DVD resolution, which is 700 something by 500 something. There should also be a maximum bitrate, so don't bother making "large quality files" that will later be crushed by Encore, just because they can't fit into DVD standards.

Again, make sure to export using MPEG-2 DVD!

Hope this helps!

I.
