Why does "A Christmas Story" look like crap?

i hate it when they trick you with the credits. a lot of AMC movies start letterboxed because if they were cropped we'd lose part of the credits. then the movie starts and they crops the sides off. it makes me sad.

As a side note, the era in question is right around the time daylight balanced film stocks were becoming mainstream. Previously, stocks were tungsten balanced because everything was shot on a sound stage. So these were uncharted waters.

I read an interview with Tonino Delli Colli recently where he stated that he hated it whenever Kodak released a new stock because the new stocks were not time tested and he would have to relearn almost everything with each new stock released.

I quickly scanned this thread so I am sorry if someone else has mentioned it but I have found that my plasma makes all films that are not HD look very average...Some more than others...unless it is HD, old videos and movies look better on a regular TV set...Before HD came out I was ver disappointed in my first plasma for this reason.

Just my 2 cents,

Cheers,
