Why do people love Magic Bullet Looks?

Hey, I'm a premiere pro cs5 user and I can't really see the point in MBL. It's not that wonderful, and I can easily get all the looks in there by just using brightness/contrast, RGB curves, and Color ballance. Just wondering what this product does that's so great. The only really useful one in the Magic Bullet Suite imo is the denoiser.

You can get all the looks yeah, but this is one tool that does it all. Although lately everyone has gone MBL crazy and use too much of the presets. I'm much more interested in optical effects, and minimal color grading in post. Though, MBL is really nice&easy for things like quick ads, and youtube videos, etc.

Regarding the denoiser... that is not the best product. You want to look into something a bit better like NeatVideo. Works with CS5 and 64-bit, both Premiere and AE. It works incredibly good, unless you want to spend a lot of $$$ and buy something like PFClean

Thanks, I haven't bought the denoiser yet, but I'll check neatvideo. I just don't see the point in spending another $400 on the looks. I do think Particular and their trapcode stuff is really cool.

Looks is abused by lazy people, and a lot of people are lazy.
That being said, it is still a great tool to change the look and feel of your project in a few clicks. I would recomend you treat Looks like a temp tack, lay it on there for the general idea, and then refine it maybe with colorista or levels and masks

I can't speak for others, but what I like about MBL is that when I know I want a different look for a sequence or clip, I know that MBL probably has a preset that comes CLOSE to the style or color that I have in mind. Within just a minute or two, I've selected a preset (this is where the lazy people stop) and then I begin modifying it to make it exactly what I want. I find the MBL UI very easy to use, and for a FCP user like myself, it has controls for things like vignettes and gradient colors which are easier to use, quicker to adjust, and have more versatility than my NLE filters/motion effects.
