Why do people hate Michael Bay so much?

I forgot about The Rock. Cheesy Connery is still Connery. "I'll take Anal Bum Covers for two hundred!"

Just to be clear as was stated by another user...When I blamed middle America - I was not referring to a demographic or a location. I meant it as average - or majority.

I live in WV.

I did not mean that everyone outside NY and LA are idiots. I mean that the average joe loves the Bay formula.

Explosions + Love interest + Wise cracking side kick + Animal reaction shot + Techno Crane overload + Helicopters a plenty = Money = Sequel = Buy the "Special Edition Collectors DVD.

Yeah, on his earlier work, he didn't have total control. In your earlier work, you get challenged by people, forcing you to either back up your choices or admit you're wrong and come up with a better one. Once you hit the big time, all your choices are accepted. If any of us gets big, remember this advice. Always have a 'no' man on set. No matter how uncomfortable he makes you. Do not fall into the trap that you now "know what you're doing" and therefore must always be right. A couple men named M. Night and George Lucas thought the same thing.

He thinks explotions are more important than the script, so I think his credibility could be better. And in Bad Boys 2, his John Woo influences are too obvious. In that movie he copies every John Woo trademark I can think of, from the spin attack, to the slow motion effects, to Will Smith throwing himself sideways while shooting as hes Chow Yun Fat. :kali:

John woo is the Action God as far as I am concerned. Any one shooting two guns in slow motion in any movie needs to thank woo. He has gotten copied so many times on so many things that I don't even notice any more. The number 1 action movie of all time in my opinion has and always will be Hard Boiled. I may take some heat for that one but That movie is the S#!T!!

I dig Hard Boiled, but The Killer is his masterpiece. It has a more unified story. Hard Boiled feels like two movies stitched together (part undercover drama/part Die Hard rip off).

Not to get the thread back on course because who cares, but this same MB thread comes up a lot it seems. Maybe we should combine them all and make it sticky, heck make an FAQ.

The official why do people love/hate Michael Bay so much FAQ:violent5:

Q: Why is MB is so controversial? What's the fascination?

A: MB makes very high profile, over styled, cleche' packed, over the top, dumbed down movies which are consistently big hits at the box office. They're sensory movies; stimulating to the eye and ear, and packed with enough TnA, TnT, and general eye candy to keep our thoughts off the dialog and plot. He's one of the more talked about directors on DVXUSER.

Q: Should I begin another MB thread?

A: No. ...for the love of God, please.

Q: What are the three main stances on Michael Bay, and where do I fit in?

A:

Stance One: MB is a nothing but a snake oil salesman. His product is nothing but refried dog-crap in a pretty container.

Stance Two: Don't hate MB, hate the audiences for giving up the $$.

Stance Three: MB's movies may not stand up to any serious criticism but he should be respected for his adept in appealling to the unwashed masses.

Note: These stance are often combined within the same post.

Q: Should I really care? Is he relevant to my success in the film making industry?

A: Absolutely. Even to the most cynical way of thinking, MB's style of commercial appeal says much about many things. He's a guidepost... if not the very icon of shameless no holds barred, in your face, mainstream appropriate titillation flick. Your stance on MB is the very guidepost with which DVXuser's guide all of their opinions and affiliations toward you, and to be anybody you must register your thoughts. Thankfully there are many opportunities as these threads are kept in constant circulation. There are even rumours of an underground resistance which seeks to ban MB threads (as with politics and religion) in an attempt to promote unity.
