Why Do I Have To Render?

I thought you didn't have to render in FCP 6.02 I thought you could drop any footage on your timeline and you wouldn't have to render it. If that's the case, then why's it making me render my clip with the red line and all?

Which setting do you have on for RT? Safe or Unlimited? If you have it in Unlimited, I'm pretty sure you won't have to render anything, but you may drop frames.

I have a 15 inch MacBook Pro. It's 1080pA from HVX. Unlimited RT doesn't work so well. It stutter-stop-stutter-stops.

I watched the tutorial, big help. I still don't understand why I'm getting the red line in FCP 6. Shouldn't I be getting a pop up that asks me if I want to change the sequence settings to match the clip.

It's my understanding that the timeline will match your footage...so for example...if you take 720pn footage and drop it into a 480i timeline..it'll ask you if you would like to change your timeline settings to match your captured footage settings. So you click yes and now the timeline is matched with your clips...720pN...it's my understanding that this is the new feature.

But now if you put in 1080iPA clips...the timeline is still in 720pN...and thus you will still have to render it.
