Why are SATA Drives so slow on a macpro?

Probably not the forum for this but thought I would see if anyone has any light they could shed on this. With my PC computer I'm getting 85-95 mb/s read & write speeds on internal SATA drives that are 80% full.
Working on a 2yr old MacPro Tower (12gb ram, Xeon 2.8 quad core) I am reading only 65-68 mb/s on drives less than 50% full. Same type of Seagate barracuda 2TB drives in each computer. Is there a setting or bottleneck issue? Also plugged in a Graid 4TB drive (Raid 0) using firewire ports and speed tests with it are only about 10mb/s faster.

Thanks if anyone has any thoughts on this or suggestions who to consult.

Are you sure they are the exact same drives? I mean, exact? Because if the platter arrangement is different on a newer generation that can affect performance. You might google the exact model numbers by opening the computers and looking at the drives (or you may be able to get it if reported by about this Mac and a tool on PC called CPU z). Also, the mac pro may be using enterprise drives that are engineered different to prioritize lower platter speeds in exchange for less heat, more reliability.

beyond that, could be a sata /motherboard chipset issue... The PCs may be newer and faster.

these are a few guesses, there are many possibilities.

There is also the issue of SATA II and SATA III and their controllers.

There is a big difference in the speed of my SATA 6GB/s vs SATA 3GB/s drives.
