Why are my avi clips darker when imported into final cut express

I have a disc of AVI files. I can drag them onto the desktop and play them in Quicktime X and they look great!

But when I import them into Final Cut Express they are quite a bit darker.

What am I doing wrong? lol
 
Mac OSX moved to the same gamma as PCs in Tiger, so I don't see how an article from 2003 still is relevant when the fundamental difference no longer exists. There is a flaw somewhere and somehow with FCP & QT for some users. I say some because it seems a non issue for some people and an issue for others.
