I have a project that gives me a "missing media files" message when opened. I deleted the files from the hard drive and from the project browser and all sequences but still getting the message for some reason.

How can I find out where or why the project is still looking for them?

thanks, td

If these files you deleted were in the project, then yes, the project would say "Hey, these files are missing. Where are they?" If you know they are missing, and don't care that they are missing, just click the FORGET button and move on. When you open a bin and see a red line through a clip, then you'll know what is missing.

Either:

A) Ignore the message and then delete all associated deleted clips from your project so that your project will stop looking for them. When you reopen the project the next time, you shouldn't get the message.

B) You could relink the footage based on where you moved the files. But since you said you deleted the files, then I take it these files are no longer important to you.

So yes, just delete the missing files from the project and you'll stop getting messages.

A little more explanation. there are no files missing in any of the bins. I have also checked all sequences to see if they had missing files and none found. It's just an annoying message that won't go away.

I was hoping there was a "reveal" or search type function to locate where a files is being referred to. If it's not being used, then the message should not appear.

Ahhhh...I'll wager you have a Quicktime Reference movie in your project. A reference movie is just that, not SELF CONTAINED, but a file that references the media that exists on your capture scratch drive. If render files or media used in that reference movie go missing, then you get that error. And until you delete that file you will get that message.
