A very general question...what makes a video tripod different than a photo tripod? Talking about the legs, not the head. I already have a fluid head and photo tripod and wondering what I would gain by going to a video tripod. Thanks for you replies.
Photo tripod legs need to be stable for generally fractions of a second and there is no torque against them at the time of exposure. Video legs generally have to be stable with more weight on them, while torquing occurs from panning or other moves and they may need to be stables for hours at a time. I have both. BIG difference.
None of my photo tripods are cross braced. None are double or triple tubes. But my video tripod has both. My photo tripod has a center post, my video tripod has a bowl to make centering and leveling easier. My photo tripod has very small feet and spikes. My video tripod has feet that would work on sand and also has spikes.
In essence, the video tripod is MUCH heavier duty. About what you'd expect to see from a photo tripod for a 4x5 or 8x10 view camera.
