Who's with me?! :)

I feel like there is so much I have to learn about lighting. I already know most of the basics, but nowhere near enough. It would be immensely helpful if Barry Green and all of the DVX guys could get together and make a lighting DVD similar to the Audio one they did (which I loved by the way! Thanks guys!). Now I know this kind of thing takes a long time to plan, shoot, edit etc, but I can hope can't I? The sound DVD taught me a lot about industry standards and uses of gear and just all sorts of things that were helpful. I got to see how a blimp works on a boom mic without buying one for example (so I can decide when I need one). With lighting, there is so much gear, and they all have nick names and to be honest, I don't really know all of the things I need to buy. C-stands for example. I have never even seen one, and trying to look at how they attatch to various equipment by squinting at tiny photos isn't cutting it.

Now, I know that just because one person requests this, does not mean it will be made anytime soon, but chime in if you agree that such a DVD by the DVX mods/experts would be helpful.

With all of that being said, can someone please reccomend any preexisting DVDs out there about lighting? Something just Jam packed with information.

Thanks guys.

Thats a wonderfull idea..Im sure it'l get someone thinking..Plus il suggest this idea to a few people i know and see what they'll say

It's been underway for quite a while. You can do more than hope, but you also have to wait, it's gonna be a while longer.

Glad you appreciated that! We wanted some real hands-on stuff in there so people knew exactly what each thing was, and what to do with it, etc.

The biggest problem we have, is the sheer size of what we're trying to do. We did what you're talking about and we walk through all the gear and demonstrate and talk about all the stands and their differences, and what was supposed to be a 20-minute segment ended up taking almost two hours. So while some people out there have lighting DVDs that end up being 45 minutes long, ours is ... well, I wanted to keep it to two discs, but David will have to do some extreme editing to get it to be under four discs, at the rate we're going! :)

We normally keep quiet about unreleased product, but I think enough people know that it's underway that I can at least confirm that it's coming. But it won't be next month, we still have tons to do. This will be the next major release from Wrightsville Beach Studios. But please be patient with us, we're getting closer to being done but it still will take some time.

Awesome Barry (and friends). I know enough about lighting to be dangerous but there are definitely gaps in my lighting knowledge.

Will you guys cover the "indie" and the "pro" way of doing things? China Balls versus 20Ks? It would be great to see you guys light a great looking scene with a flash light and gum wrapper as a reflector:Drogar-Evil(DBG):

Like the Sound DVD, we'll show you the right way, and the wrong way, and why each is exactly that. :)

Hey Barry and David....please try to include real life situations, white balance, grey card and all plus maybe different cameras response to different lighting situations..Im sure you're on it!Just a request!!!!

Looking forward to this. I assume you'll make a post in the "News" forum when this baby hits the presses?
