who's using 10.3.9?

Not ready to jump to Tiger yet, but tempted to install a combo update from 3.4 to 3.9

Anyone here been using the latest Panther without FCP 4.5 glitches?

It was different when my entire career didn't reside on my Mac, but now any screwup could cause huge problems. Can't risk it in the middle of a project. And, if nothing else, I read that WMV Studio (something I need for one ongoing project) isn't Tiger compatible yet.

As with any upgrades, its best to hold off until you're finished with whichever project you're currently working on.

10.3.9 works perfectly with FCP 4.5

10.3.9 OK. Another place here upgraded to Tiger without even looking to see if it was compatible....
And, I used to think they were a "competitor" well, guess not. :)

CJ, the problem is that there will never be a time that all projects end. I'm doing Web sites, several FCP projects, Photoshop work, etc. etc. Some will end eventually, others will be ongoing. So if I'm going to plunge in, I need to pick a time and do it.

A new Build of Tiger was seeded.....

....version 10.4.2 will be available shortly.

No disrespect to Apple....OSX rules.....but I think they pulled a M$ and rushed Tiger out the door a little too early. Almost in a *beta / RC* stage. 2 updates already?? Come on!! Hopefully this newest update will fix anything that was broken by 10.4.0 or 10.4.1

Apple is always updating the OS. Previous releases have encountered similar issues from a compatability standpoint as this one. Same wisdom applies: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Little things are querky in Tiger, like Automater, for example. They'll have the issues sorted out of this release soon; it doesn't take months or years with Apple. Remember, it was Microsoft who copied 170 individual aspects of the Macintosh GUI in the first release of Windows.... And, after fours years of litigation, never paid a single penalty. And yet even though Microsoft licensed the Mac interface they continued to make nothing but complete and total junk to this day.

I hear ya. Personally, I haven't upgraded to Tiger or FCP because I don't need to at this exact moment. With any new upgrades, I always hold off a little a let others be the guinea pigs.

However, I am looking forward to upgrading. So if you don't have to, don't. Not worth the headache "if" something goes wrong. Either that or back all your **** up. Put Tiger on a different internal hard drive.

Arkham, I agree with you. I've heard things, so I'm holding off for Tiger until everything is fixed up.

If I were doing accounting and business apps on my computer, I'd upgrade with no hesitations. Whatever bugs there are, generally wouldn't render my business apps useless.

But video's a different story. It puts your computer to the limits and absolutely destroys hard drives.

With any MAC OS update, there's a billion of things that go right, and a few combination of things that go wrong. I think it's best to at least let the 3rd party companies have enough time to address whatever problems may or may not be there.

But that's me.

Lets not forget WHO stole WHAT first!! Apple stole the GUI and the Mouse from Xerox!!

Well, technically they convinced Xerox to let them have it / license it. Whatever!! They jacked it!!

Anyone interested in the story should check out *Pirates of Silicon Valley*. Pretty cool movie about the humble beginings of both companies and their *thieving* ways!!
