I'm looking for one of these lenses and wanted to know where everyone is getting these at a reasonable price. I was told to stay away from ebay since the quality might not be as advertised. So, anyone got any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the info.

You're in luck. You can buy a 50mm prime f/1.4 really cheap because it's probably the most common lens available. I consider it cheap when brand new.

Just shop around. KEH.com is good if you want used lenses.... i go there to get deals on rare or expensive lenses I can't buy new.

I've purchased a couple lenses off eBay and my experience has been good all around. As long as you check the seller's feedback before hand (I only bought lenses from sellers with 1000+ feedback) and specify that you're a picky buyer when it comes to lenses, you should be in the clear. I think I've purchased four lenses from eBay and all of them have arrived promptly, packed well and in great condition.

Bought all our lenses used from KEH. http://www.keh.com They got one right now for $245. Just type "Nikon 50mm f1.4" into the search box. (I didn't select anything from the lists above the search window)

Ok, so I have someone who is wiling to sell me a lens in good condition at a fair price. The only thing is the lens is an older one and so I'm not sure if the quality will be the same. Its a Nikon 50mm 1.4f manual focus. It was probably made in the 60's. So, what do you guys think. Should I stick with a lens that's been manufactured more recently?

You should be fine. The older Nikon glass was wonderful. One thing to think about: will you ever use the lens on a stills camera? If the answer is "yes" or even "maybe" then I would try to get something a little more current. All AI mount Nikon lenses will connect to current cameras but you may get limited metering. If that's not important to you then don't worry about the older glass.

One benefit of dealing with KEH is they have a return policy. Will the individual you are dealing with return your money if you are disatisfied?

Thanks for the info. I wasn't considering using the lenses with a still camera. But, now that I think of it I'm sure it would be a good idea to practice with a still instead of lugging my video camera everywhere.

Ok, well I found a 50mm 1.4f AI-S lens in EX+ condition for $160 on ebay. I bought it. Hopefully I enjoy this lens as much as everyone else does.
