Who's doing what for insurance?

I'm just trying to get an idea of what most of y'all are doing for insurance and why you like your chosen option.... one to cover equipment and two to cover liability (i.e. production insurance, etc.).

Thanks.

For a while I had a policy with The Hartford, but had some customer service issues with them so I switched to Nationwide.

I have $26,000 worth of equipment covered, and a $2 mil liability policy. Comes out to $580/year. I've yet to make a claim, but I've been told that my premiums will NOT rise if/when/should I file a claim.

That sounds reasonable. I assume that it is standard business insurance?

Thanks.

does that includwe rental? i just paid 1166 for one year for 3 million of liability, 27K of own equipment and 500K rental withh 200K for any one item. the liabilty goes for 322 but the rental and equipment is like 844.

I actually am looking into insurance right now. I'm not even sure what i need.

I will be showing movies at things like weddings (i think they require liability).
I will also be renting out a projector/screen.
I would like to protect my equipment as well, although at this point there's not that much of it (maybe $5k worth on any given shoot)

What kind of policy do i need and can my regular allstate agent provde all that stuff or should i go to a specialty house?

Who is that through? I was quoted around $1500 per year for 3 mil liability with three payouts a year, $25k equipment, and rental (I think freelance liability was included with the general liability.)

Thanks,

Matthew

Man I'm glad you started this thread... I've been using an "inland marine" policy through State Farm to insure $16K worth of gear... and by this next bill it needs to be adjusted to $20K worth... My premium for $16K has been right about $300 and to get to $20K it will probably jump to at least $360... this is with $500 deductable and kind of low liability numbers.

I thought I was getting a fairly good deal... but it sounds like maybe I'm not? What are the deductables like on these policies you guys are talking about? Sure the deductable is only charged if you make a claim... but it kind of irks me that I could be paying (relative to the total yearly cost + claim) upwards of $1K to replace a $4k item... that's pretty shiddy in my opinion.

My Nationwide policy IS a business policy. The guy that wrote mine up had never done one like that before, but he called around and figured some stuff out and made a more tailored policy than what I had with The Hartford.

I do not have rental insurance included with that, but I did have them go ahead and write up a template for a policy rider...it's like a second policy on top of my normal policy that covers gear that I rent for the period of time that I'm renting it - I haven't done that yet, though.

My deductable for equipment is $250/per incident. No deductable on the liability.
