Whoosh Sound Effects

Can you guys recommend some places where I can get whoosh sound effects, like the kind used to show transition from one location to another? I already have a few basic whooshes and swishes, but I'm looking for the more "colorful" ones (some would call them cheesy) like the kind you see on Entertainment Tonight or Access Hollywood. I don't even know what these SFX are called, so it's hard to search for them on sites like Sound Dogs.

Thanks guys. Those are some great suggestions! Now I have to decide which one(s) to get.

If anybody else has other suggestions, please feel free to chime in.

I bought The Big Whoosh years ago because I wanted a bunch of whooshes and was very disappointed. Not that its bad audio, its just named badly. What it actually is a bunch of fully produced radio stingers. Not really whooshes at all.

I would build rather than buy. Whoosh, swish, etc are usually shorter than your talking about. But if you slow them down your getting close. They may also be called transitions, and stings (though that usually implies something else). Digital Juice has a bunch. I think they call them transforms? Wipes might also get some hits.

just record your own. Plastic hangers, heavy cloth, even my kid's toy lightsaber, all make different whoosh sounds when I wave them around. I find the stock library ones are used over and over again. Once you get 4 or 5 good recordings you can manipulate those enough to at least double that in terms of sounds you can create.

Borrow golf clubs and put a mic at ground level etc.

All the clubs sound different, try a driver first, then work through the bag with a take number for each one. Laying sounds like rubber band twangs at the start can make distinctive whooshes.

If you're not comfortable with your expensive mic being close to the swing path, your local club pro might help.
He could probably drive a Shure dynamic about 100yards :)

Cheers.

There could probably be some clarification on "whooshes". Most editors, and most of the "make some this way" responses are about relatively short whooshes.

The OP is really asking for whoosh transitions to go with a cut or dissolve. Those are often designed to fit the specific action. Though on TV shows and such they are more likely to be stock library FX. You can build the longer ones by slowing down the shorter ones and layering up till you get what you want, but you can also find them stock designed for "standard" wipe times.
