whoever hasnt seen koyaanisqatsi

My theory about this film is that the ratio of people who actually love to it to the people who say they love it is quite small. Not casting aspersions on anyone in particular; it's just my suspicion in general. :)

I once had the pleasure of seeing the film projected, with the score performed LIVE by Philip Glass and his ensemble.

This movie was almost life changing once I truly understood it. Maybe not life changing but it definitely changed the way I look at life. I saw it projected but not with the score being performed. I have a friend who got to see it performed and screened.

A lot of stock footage houses made A LOT of money on that film. Especially Energy (now Corbis) and Getty. That's what held up the DVD release. Since DVD didn't exist when the film was made, those rights had to be renegotiated.

All I get is a "Videos being watched now." page.
The World Wide Web is getting smaller. :)

Seems a shame to watch it on such a crappy platform.

Saw it projected about 15 years ago

What the hell is it? I can't see YouTube at work!!!!

......mesmerising eye candy with a subtle message that starts slowly and builds throughout.

life out of balance

.....it is part of a trilogy of sorts.

while koyaanisqatsi is good, it doesn't hold a candle to what Ron Fricke (DP for koyaanisqatsi) did when he went out and shot his own film, Baraka.

I still believe it's aesthetically and emotionally one of the most perfect films ever made, and I don't think it's going to be surpassed by anyone but Fricke himself with Samsara (2010, hopefully). If you are in the visual arts and haven't seen Baraka, you have no excuse to not somehow get it right now and view it. It will change the way you see through a lens, and see the world in general

I have seen both I still feel that koyaanisqatsi is better because the message is allot lower key and you really don't get it until a year later. Just so we can get passed calling it a "message". What I got from Koyaanisqatsi is that industrialized humans are producing so much that the rest of the world cant handle it or keep up. And then when the space ship blew up which was obviously not intentional it seemed like a metaphor for there being no escape if we do destroy the world. (koyaanisqatsi - life out of balance) kinda goes with my impression of the message behind it.

There's no point in watching this film on youtube. To get its full effect, you really need to see it projected. Being in an altered state helps as well...
