Well, not complete crap -- but I finally got around to watching this flick and, can I tell ya? Not that great.

If this script would have been re-created to take place in, say, New York City, the movie would have been a laughable B-flick at best.

The mob boss was a flat in any dimension. The romance story was something out of a sappy 70s flick. And the brothers relationship rarely made any sense or was cohesive to their characters.

When they were kids running around, that was cool, but you'd have to be living in a trailer park with no CNN to think India is a place where 99.9% of people are evil and abusive and that American's visit and give out money to thieving children (and do so with that ole country accent -- "This is how we do it in America.")

Complete cheese.

The only thing I can figure is that people looked at this as if it was a foreign film and so gave it the kind of respect things like Life is Beautiful and Amelie deserved. But this wasn't a "real" foreign film. It was made by English people with English actors (with a few Indian brats thrown in for good measure).

Nothing in this movie was novel or unique to American cinema. Just because Bollywood finally reached the 80s, doesn't mean it's worthwhile.

I'm dropping a big Cleveland steamer on this one. But points for the kids. They were cool.

I bet if Slumdog had never reached fame, and Chamber was one of the only people who had seen it, he'd be praising it as a "must see."
