Who solders in NY?

Hey everybody, I need someone in New York who will order a LEMO connector for me and solder it onto my camera's (existing) DC cord for a reasonable price in a reasonable time frame. Do you have any recommendations?

Maybe swing by Gotham Sound in Brooklyn... Near the Museum of the Moving Image (sorry, I'm not a local; don't know which neighborhood that is).

I do a lot of sound work. Lemo connectors can be tricky to get right. Gotham's one of the best location-sound places in the US, they're way more likely to have lots of experience with Lemos than someone who builds great XLR cables but doesn't deal as much with transmitter and timecode cables.

Probably not the cheapest, but probably fairly fast, and just about for sure well made.

Of course other locals may have other suggestions (or can perhaps help directly).

Hey Jim, thanks for the quick reply. No, I won't use Gotham again.

Bad experience tangent (feel free to skip):
I had a cable to customize and for a straight year they kept telling me "it's almost done". Then they reported they couldn't find the cable anymore. I visited them TWICE and while they were very nice and they have all the best gear in store, they just shrugged. They don't dispute that they should have the cable, it's in the computer but they just misplaced it. This can happen but com on, they didn't even offer to replace my cable or refund me… After 3 years they seriously have the gall to go: "we will keep looking for it. Maybe it will turn up." No, they are clearly in a different universe.

…sorry for the rant but I feel their lack of professionalism deserves a public warning.

That's pretty sucky. I've bought a couple things online from them (but sales are easy) and some friends have gotten tricky cables made by them and like them. But if I'd had an experience like yours, ya, I'd stay away. :-(

If you want to send me the pieces and pinout, I'd be happy to solder it up for you, I don't want to get into ordering stuff. I'm not metro area at all but in the middle of the state.

Not sure if they do repairs, but you might try Video Guys, if they don't they might be able to send you to someone they trust https://videoguys.com/.

Not sure who else in the metro area to suggest. Audio Video Corp. up in Albany could make what you need.

All that said, can you buy it premade from Markertek? What connector is on each end? Or what equipment to what power source do you need? It would surprise me if you couldn't find the LEMO end already terminated and then you'd only need to handle the larger end.

Update: I have found John Kelly at AbelCine in Brooklyn to be the most reliable, delightful and diligent guy. He has taken care of some difficult cable and connector stuff for me. Thanks everybody for chiming in and especially to Greg for your offer.

Soldering is probably the most useful skill anyone can learn if you do video, audio or lighting. Like any physical skill, it takes practice, but I learned in 1980, and it stays with you.

Plan B - look up on the net your local ham radio club, and look for anyone over 40 - they'll all be able to solder, and some of them will be excellent at it. Wave a few dollars at them and they'll usually jump in. LEMOs are horrible connectors without the right size soldering irons, and you also need some sleeving - but it's fiddly, not hard.
