Who makes a good tape rewinder?

I was thinking about the Sima SRW-62, but then I read an online user review saying:

"...the rewinder slams it to stop unlike the camcorder that can detect the clear lead at the end of the tape and stop it gently. After I rewound two of my Sony Excellence tapes in that rewinder all the way to the beginning, my camcorder wouldn't even take them, displaying error message on its LCD and eventually jamming the tape."

Can anyone please suggest a rewinder/fast-forwarder that's gently on tapes, preferably AC w/tape counter?

Thanks. :)

I have a dv-90 "digital video winder" not sure if I got it from bH or adorama..one of the two. i think it was 40 or 50 dollars.

It's worked well so far, but no counter. rew/ff

I haven't had a problem with it "jamming"--never even had to think about that..

i had a maxell untill about 3 months ago when it broke and ate a tape.. in fact the tape got stuck in there so bad I couldnt even open the lid. Dont buy that one.

I'm glad you told me that. I had bought one, but after reading your post I returned it last night.

Is everyone using their DVX to rewind and fast forward? Are the little motors robust enough to do that on a regular basis without burning out? I keep reading how important it is to fast forward and rewind all tapes left in storage once every six months. If I follow that advice with my DVX I'm afraid I'll put too much wear and tear on it.

I have a sony DSR-11 deck. That said, the DVX motors are pretty hardcore.
