who is using this? does it have many options for colour correcting? transitions? and all that other good stuff?

how is it really?

I've been using EDIUS since version 1.5 and I'm still using it now in version 3.6x.
I saw all the updates it went through and definetely I will still use it for the next versions as it always inserts new feature and I believe when it will reach vesrion 5 it will be a very mature editing software....and have keyframes!!!!!!!
I've worked 3 years witn Premiere 6.0 on a DigiSuite Matrox and I can tell you it's a nightmare!!I've worked on Avids too, which is by far the most versatile edit soft to work.
So, after Avid (which I'm not that rich to buy an avid suite) Edius is my software of choice. And damn the fastest of all coupled with a Canopus card.
 
I have used the 30 day trial (every day for 30 days !) and I am very pleased that I worked real time at least with 2 streams 720p24p and 3ghz CPU. I am also impressed with the chroma keying capabilitys. And I would be alwready an owner if somebody informed me:

A) Does it have full PAL support ?
(Does it capture 1080i25p AND 720p25p over 50) ?

B) We import P2 MXF files DVCPRO-HD...
can we export our work to MXF DVCPRO-HD (never found the P2 export
comand) or whats the alternative for the best possible quality ??

and less important:

C) Is it compatible with G-RAID ???
(I emailed G-tech and never got an answer)

I am looking forward for NAB... and probably for version 4.

You mast download the trial. I don't know what type of work you do, but Edius is as powrfull as any other NLE on the market for transitions and color correcting. One of the main difereneces is that when you overcome the first...:badputer: well, emotions that Edius layout will bring you and stop :kali: at everything that moves around you trying to find where the OPEN command is hiding, and right after you stop:crybaby: from happiness that you did manage to find all the hidden menus that keep repeating in every corner, then you will realize that Edius is much more easier to use then lets say PPRO.

BTW I already said this on canopus forums: we users don't need 30 day full fuctional trials (hackers do) we realy need demos that are not full fuctional but you can try the product as long as you need.
 
My demo just expired (sob).

It absolutely beats Premiere to death in terms of speed.

Transitions and special effects are viewable without rendering on my AMD 3400 computer.

Those who are into chromakeying will like the realtime playback of greenscreen footage/backgroud footage straight off the timeline, with no rendering required.

Edius is great if you need to customize your interfaces, and when used with two monitors, it rocks.

I think it matches the requirements of the Hvx p2... editing of native footage and no intermediate footage required.

It's as easy as editing with regular dv. I have't tried FCP, Avid or Vegas, but I'm impressed enough to look no further.

Unfortunately the major powers seem to not like that... intenstly...
We had to fight pretty hard to get the non-feature-limited timed trial we have now.

They just aren't comfortable with un-timed things - feature-limited or not.

Does the P2 export comand exports only to P2 or it just exports in P2 structure in any storage device you want to ? In other words, can we have our finished project in DVCPRO-HD MXF file in P2 stucture directly to an external hard disk? I know that you already anwsered in a way but my English isnt perfect and I want some things spell out to me in order to be 100% sure I got it right.

Did you try any PAL files yet ?

I know that you use G-Raid, any problems (you had a few in the beginning) ?

Yes you can export it wherever you want, to hard disk or back to a P2 card or whatever.

Haven't tried PAL files in Edius yet.

G-Raid works fine.
 
Thanks Barry. Keep us informed when you do. You have mentioned some problems with live streaming, everything ok now as well, or you still get the ''slow hard disk speed'' message ? What was the problem anyway ?
 
When I tested Edius, I thought that it did a good job in terms of speed but the poor audio support (especially for exporting an omf or aaf) caused me to switch to FCP.
 
The problem is that I'm running it on a grossly underpowered system. I'm testing it on a proper dual-core system after NAB and will be able to report how it performs in the real world, but right now I've been using it on the laptop and while it works fine for editing (including realtime playback of clips!) it's not enough to handle streaming capture.
 
Barry I'm sure you have seen my post before on the Dual Core Laptop that I use with Edius Broadcast . So for the others that have not read my post . I use a Dual Core AMD Laptop. 200 g-raid drive, 2 g ram . Record directly from the HVX200 1080/60 to the laptop. I hour program, 1 camera shoot, live music. Edit in Edius Broadcast , add a few transition, CG and transfer to DVD-R and take to the local cable co, and is broadcast each night at 6:00 and 10:30 pm.
This I do as a community service


Yes I do work for $ I need more P2 for other projects.

Hi ANdreas and Pal folks,

i am doing a documentary right now in italy, using a couple of p2 cards that i download to an external maxtor drive (one touch 3) and watch and edit(test wise) with the trial of edius 3.

All i can say: i cam really surprised how well it perfomes!(i got a centrino laptop with 512 mb ram-playing back in realtime, even with effects!)

I am coming from premiere(developement really sucks, even spent money for it, not any more..!) and avis, and i am so fare really happy with edius.

Of course u have to get used to it, its still a new editing sofware, but the p2 implementation is great (we record in dvcpro 50) and i even exported edited material back to a folder in p2 format, did it also back to p2 card, no problem at all, theoreticly u could also playback it this way, also longer stuff, if you just have enough p2, than you could hot swap it in playback like you do it in recording.

If canopus decides to develope its audio support (omf export..etc.) then i will really think about to buy it.
Anyway, you feel that they really support dvcpro and p2 natively, thats just great!

Would love to hear from other who test it in real life...!
Anyone in pal-land tried hd and framerates?
Dont have the time to do this until the beginning of may...!
 
Just got this. Gearing up for post production for my short.

I've used every other NLE available but Canopus, so I'm eager to see what it's like.
