Who is getting an Xbox 360 today?

I was primed to go out and buy one . . . but initial reports indicate that Xbox madness has beset America. Apparently people are camping out to get their hands on the new console. Some people arrived at 6AM yesterday to get the first midnight sales.

I don't intend to fight rampaging hordes of 14 year-olds at Best Buy, so the strategizing now begins. I'm going to check a few out-of-the-way "mom & pop" retailers in the morning. If I strike out, it may be February before these things are readily available.

Anyone planning to take the Xbox 360 plunge?

Won't have a chance to get a 360, but I picked up one of these bad boys today.

If it had launched with some games that interested me, I would have. Too bad that Elder Scrolls 4 was delayed. :(

I assume X-Boy is a modded X-Box?

It will be interesting to see if X-Box 360 catches on with the modding community. The only impediment I see is the paltry 20GB removable hard drive which appears to be proprietary technology (not sure about that). However, the 360 has USB ports, so additional external drives are possible.

I just got a new PS2 recently (sold my first one a couple years ago), so I'll be sticking with that for a while. I'll wait till the first major price drop happens with the XBox 360 or PS3.

my understanding is that unless you have an HDTV, XBox 360 isn't worth it. I'm a big Amped fan though. Too bad it's like $8000 dollars for enough of a system where you can actually play a game.

I sold my Xbox about a year ago and have just lost interest in gaming almost all together since. Occassionally if I'm bored I'll play a NES emulator (long live Zelda) or Ravenshield online when I want to kill people, but it just seems like anything that comes out on the XBox will come out on the PC... I just don't have time to game anymore.

I'm not a big fan of console video games. I'd rather play video games on my computer with my Radeon X800 pro graphics card.

Who honestly has an extra $400 dollars laying around to throw away on a device for the sole purpose of wasting ones' time? - not to mention money.

If Jarred charged $1/hr for all the time many of us spend just in the cafe', it would be a lot more than $400/mo.

It just depends on what your interests are. Obviously you aren't that interested in gaming, but some people in this thread are. Personally I only spend about six or seven hours a month playing games, but I have fun doing it.

I don't game much anymore, but I used to play quite a bit to chill out, and I enjoyed it. I don't think that anything enjoyable can be classed as a waste of time though, what else is life for

Agreed. The interesting thing about Xbox 360 is that it's being billed as a "digital media center," capable of streaming video, audio, etc. as well as playing games.

Every year the game and film/TV industries become more closely intertwined.

We are entering an era of convergence and media-on-demand, which is great for filmmakers.

You can shoot a film on your DVX, edit on your PC, post online...and then people everywhere can download and stream it to their TVs via Xbox. Or watch it on their iPods. Or maybe their cellphones. Pretty cool.

Alas, my attempt to score an Xbox 360 today failed. It's a sellout.
