Who has sold gear to B&H?

I am looking to sell some camera gear to the good folks at B&H.

I emailed the camera and lens description and that generated a quote.

Sure I wish the quote was higher but I can live with the quoted price.

I am about to drop off the camera and lens to B&H who will then evaluate the gear for 48hrs and then I imagine cut me a check.

Anyone else sell gear to B&H?

If so, care to share you experience?

Was the eventual final price the same as the quoted price?

Thanks in advance.

Be well.

I've gotten quotes from both B & H and Adorama for lenses in the past, but found I could do better through other means - ebay, craigslist, reduser etc. I've had some surprisingly good experiences submitting instant trade-in with Amazon. Got a really good price on a Canon EF 16 35 f2.8L. Caveat there being that it's store credit not cash. Other times their pricing is super lame. Anyway, wish you well the sale.

I sold several items through B&H. Each and every time the final price was the same as quote. Good thing about B&H is that it's significantly less frustrating experience and there is no chance of any disputes with buyers. Not that I have any (and I sold several thing @dvxuser as well and even have positive feedback). But some horrific stories I hear once in a while give me creeps and make B&H deals much sweater. It's a sure and very quick deal.

I recently, last week, sold my camera a PMW300K1 which they should receive tomorrow thanks to delays in clearing customs. Previously I have sold back lenses and cameras and always been good with their deal. Yes, you will probably get more for the items if you sell them but that takes time. I posted my stuff for sale for a few weeks had some interest but not a sale and then decided it was better to sell to B&H and move forward. Will let you know how it goes if you are interested, I expect I will hear from them by the weekend.

I have sold a few things to B&H and it is pretty straightforward, no extra hassle and the quoted price has always been right.

Brian and All-

I also have looked at alternatives selling venues but this is an older camera (Sony NEX FS100 w/lens & FMU) and frankly, I can live with the quote.

I welcome any updates and I will do the same so others who might also have similar thoughts about selling their gear will have a thread which they can research.

Thanks in advance.

Be well.

For the fun of it I entered in their used submission form my used once, brand new DJI Ronin-M still in the box that I bought from them last year. In as-new condition they offered me $550. Hahahaha!!.. I know they have to mark it up but holy crap, I can sell it here or on eBay tmrw for $1000.

They did offer $420 for my ten year old Zeiss ZF 35mm 2.0 that I bought new for $650 in 2006. I guess it true, glass holds it's value well.

The quotes are usually a waste of time...you would be losing hundreds of dollars more than you should. But if it's an item that has much competition on the used market and/or you're looking to move it fast, it's very convenient.

But I would always try other methods first.

Selling to B&H is like selling to Pawn Stars. Ridiculous quotes and I don't blame them. They are a big business and have high overhead, of course their quotes will be low. I have always had much better prices by selling myself on Amazon. Why anyone would sell to B&H makes no sense to me but a lot of artists are terrible business people and don't know any better. Selling here, Amazon or locally will always yield you more money than selling to an NYC box store.

Sold to them a few times and Adorama as well. Yes you sacrifice your investment for convenience, but it's nice to just have the B&H gift card emailed to you. Sold them an Anton Quad charger that I had and it fetched a decent price at the time.

i ended up selling the camera, lens and fmu to adorama.

the quoted price over the phone was a bit higher than b&h.

when i brought the gear to adorama, they looked it over and offered a lesser price than the b&h written quote.

after some back & forth, no hardball necessary, the agreed upon price was then raised to within shouting distance of adorama's phone quote.

i walked out of the store with a check.

i might of scored higher on ebay by 15-20%...might.

but then minus the ebay cut, the cost of shipping/insurance and the potential for a payment hassle and i'm satisfied with adorama.

by the way, someone had listed the same camera package on my local craigslist for months so doubtful two of these cameras would have suddenly brought buyers.

if b&h was just a wee bit higher, i would have gone that route.

all good.

be well.

very useful information.

my most recent experience with adorama was an in-person, super low offer on a zeiss lens. sold it on ebay for about 50% more so the fees were covered.

conversely, a while ago, selling a gh3 on ebay became a major, costly, hassle with three different...umm...disreputable...buyers. bad luck. ended up passing it on to a young filmmaker friend for next to nothing. it was the right choice because he shoots with it all day every day. most of the time i've been lucky to deal with honest people on ebay, but when it's a drag, it's truly a drag.

thanks again for the update.

update:

dropped gear off at b&h this morning.

two mirrorless camera bodies with kit lenses, along with two additional lenses.

gear was in great condition.

quote was lower than MAYBE what i could have gotten on eBay.

take away paypal fee, eBay fee, partial shipping fee and the MAYBE factor, the b&h price was okay in comparison to eBay.

since i am located in nyc, no muss no fuss at b&h.

all gear was looked over.

i walked out with a check.

thank you b&h for once again being the gold standard in customer service.

(ymmv-your mileage may vary!)

be well.
