Who has a facebook?

Good thing about facebook is there is not one studio executive that isn't on it. Most actors also have it.

Hi all:

So please explain what exactly is the allure of Facebook to someone who knows very little about it? My daughter is on it and all of her friends, but she is 14 and that seems to be what kids do. But why do people in the industry want to be on Facebook? What exactly can you do with it? Because I am not a member, all I see on all of your links is a very simple AOL looking page with a few avatars/pictures and a list of prefs that sound like a personals ad listing. Is that it or am I missing something?

Am I missing a whole bunch of content because I am not signed in when I look at all of your pages? Since people PM here on DVXUser and send each other e-mails, what is so special about being on Facebook? Sorry, clueless, it doesn't make sense to me.

Enlighten please?

Thanks,

Dan

Dan-

I mainly signed up to get in touch with people I knew in college who I had lost track of. It seems that Facebook is the only way to easily find some people. It's grown from there, however.:)

It's a great way to keep in touch / network with people. Some people use it for personal contacts others professional contacts. I use mine for personal friends. Most have moved away, they like to post pics of thier kids so it's great for that. I only have 48 friends on my page, just 2 or 3 are in the entertainment industry but through them I can have direct contact with about anybody in show biz (if I wanted to). Top studio execs, top actors etc. and it takes about 30 seconds. Some people like to set up pages just for thier movies / documentaries, (I do not accept commercial promo's on mine) but it is a great way to get the word out. Heck, Chiplote (buritto place) has 120,000+ fans :) that's pretty good marketing for a free page.

I guess you can get a lot out of it depending what your motives are and how you utilize it. My motives are keeping in touch with old friends, others use it as a business tool for networking and get a lot of work / jobs from it.

A contact who is not on my page (friends only) shoots for the Discovery Channel but if I added him I could have contact info for about every camera guy, editor, producer, writer exec that works for Discovery Channel through him so it can be a very usefull tool for business if you want it to be.

I'll bet if you go to Zac's page you could find a boom op, dp, editor etc all in less than a minute and probably every indie in the business.

Dan,

Another thing it could be used for (Zak, I'm going to use you for an example, hope you don't mind:)) lets say Zak is getting ready to start preproduction on his next movie and needs to hire 25 people in the next 24 hours, he could broadcast a "Help Wanted" message through his friends / contacts. Actually I might start a second Facebook page, one for friends and one for professional contacts.
